About Aanya
Aanya is a psychotherapist in training dedicated to supporting her clients through struggles with trauma, social relationships, neurodivergence, depression, identity, sexuality, and major life transitions. She operates within the frameworks of relational trauma-informed narrative therapy, integrated with parts work and inner-child healing.
Aanya is a multilingual international student from India who is fluent in English and Hindi. As a multicultural individual, she understands the experience of being caught between two worlds and the stress brought on by immigrating to a new country. Her experience as an international student informs her dedication towards curiosity and cultural sensitivity.
She believes that healing occurs within the safety of the therapeutic relationship, which extends out into a client’s personal life. Aanya believes all individuals deserve to feel safe to explore their intersectional identities and that any act of vulnerability should be met with gentle care and curiosity about the client’s lived experiences.
Through a multicultural lens, Aanya holds space for the pervasive systemic and social discrimination that individuals from minority communities experience, and she aims to support her clients by bringing these struggles into the foreground and moving away from a pathologizing medical lens.
Currently, Aanya is pursuing her Master’s in Mental Health Counselling at Teacher’s College, Columbia University. Mental health advocacy and awareness have been a lifelong passion for Aanya and she aims to further pursue her goal by integrating her experiences with narrative studies, storytelling and writing into her practice. Ultimately, Aanya strives to bring humility, empathy, curiosity and warmth into the therapy room.
